RBI buys Rs 9,435.48 cr worth govt bonds from market

The Reserve Bank today said it has bought Rs 9,435.48 crore of government bonds under its open market operation.

MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank today said it has bought Rs 9,435.48 crore of government bonds under its open market operation (OMO) compared to a target of Rs 10,000 crore to ease liquidity.

In a statement issued here, the central bank said four type of securities were offered today as part of the OMO.

While those maturing in 2017 with a coupon of 7.99 percent garnered Rs 648.86 crore, those with 7.83 percent coupon and maturing in 2018 garnered Rs 2,288.6 crore, the statement said.

Similarly, RBI purchased gilts with a coupon of 7.80 percent maturing in 2021 for Rs 3,802.87 crore and Rs 2,695.11 crore worth of gilts with a yield of 8.13 percent were also bought by the central bank.
