Online food delivery platforms Swiggy and Zomato faced an outage during the lunch hours on Wednesday which lasted 20 minutes due to a glitch in Amazon Web Services, an IT management company which hosts both the platforms.

According to website outage monitor platform DownDetector, the Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers went down at the same time on Wednesday afternoon, indicating that it may have been the main cause behind the brief outage.

During the nation-wide outage on Swiggy and Zomato, customers could not place their orders on the app, make payment or track their order.

Both the food delivery apps acknowledged the glitch, which was resolved after half an hour.

"Hi there, we are facing a temporary glitch. Please be assured our team is working on this and we will be up and running soon," Zomato responded to to a complaint by a user who could not get his order.

While some of the hungry customers who had to wait long demanded a refund, others made fun of the situation, reminding Zomato of its recent announcement to start instant delivery within 10 minutes.
