‘Would retire if I get such an amount.’ Salman Khan denies rumours of him bagging Rs 1000 cr for hosting ‘BB 16’

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan denied rumours of him being paid a whopping amount of Rs 1000 crore for hosting season 16 of popular reality television show ‘Bigg Boss’. The ‘Dabangg’ star used his trademark humour, saying he will stop working the day he starts earning such a huge amount of money. Khan was rumoured to have taken home Rs 350 crore for the last season of ‘Bigg Boss’.

The actor addressed these rumours at a press conference of the show. "If I get this amount I will not work in my life... Those Rs 1,000 crore, I was rumoured to be getting this year, I was about to return the money I never got in the first place. So, Colors will be in complete profit," he said.


He also joked a lot of this alleged amount would go in paying his legal team. "If I am getting this price, I have so many expenses, like the fees of the lawyers. Here Salman earns, here Salman gives. It comes, it goes," he was quoted as saying.

On a serious note, the actor dismissed the rumours point blank. “My fee is not that much. It is not even 1/4th of this amount. The ED and I-T departments are well aware of how much I earn. They know the reality, ’’ said the ‘Partner’ star.

Khan also revealed that he doesn’t wish to return as the ‘Bigg Boss’ host every year. “ There are times I get fed up with the show. I tell the channel that I don’t want to host the show. But they don’t have an alternative and so they keep coming back to me. If they had a choice they would have replaced me back.,” he said.

The ‘Kick’ actor also said that people should not judge him for his outbursts on the reality TV show. He explained that as a host it is his job to keep the inmates in check and ensure that they don’t step out of line with each other.

“Yes, sometimes I lose my temper. But it is solely because so many contestants go overboard. The viewers are presently with a heavily curated version of the events. Those of us who have access to the unedited footage, know how low some people can go in the name of competition. I interfere to keep these people from crossing their limits,’’ he explained.

‘Bigg Boss: Season 16’ premieres on October 1. This season will see many TV stars and social media influencers up the glam quotient. The contestants include Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia of ‘Choti Saardaarni’ fame, Soundarya Sharma, Sreejita Dey, Gautam Vig, Shiv Thakare, Manya Singh, Shalin Bhanot, Sumbul Touqueer, Shivin Narang and Tina Dutta of ‘Uttaran’ fame.
