Marvel’s first release of 2026, Wonder Man, ends on a note that feels very different from the usual MCU finales. Instead of a city-ending battle or a multiverse tease, the show chooses something quieter and more emotional. The final episode, titled Yucca Valley, focuses on Simon Williams’ inner turmoil, his complicated friendship with Trevor Slattery, and the price of loyalty. By the time the credits roll, the series leaves viewers with answers, questions, and a possible path forward.

What happened in the finale of Marvel's Wonder Man? (spoilers alert)

The finale picks up after Simon learns that Trevor has been secretly feeding information to the Department of Damage Control (DoDC). What initially looks like a betrayal turns out to be far more complicated. Trevor was cornered by the agency and forced to monitor Simon or face imprisonment again for his past crimes as the Mandarin. Simon, overwhelmed by hurt and anger, fails to see the grey area. His emotions spiral out of control, leading to an ionic blast that severely damages the Wonder Man film set and knocks out power across the area.

Following the incident, Simon prepares himself for arrest. News channels label him a threat, and he even calls his mother, Martha, fearing the worst. However, the story takes an unexpected turn. The DoDC does not come for Simon. Instead, their focus shifts entirely to Trevor. This twist changes the emotional centre of the finale from punishment to sacrifice.

To protect Simon, Trevor makes a desperate decision. He resurrects his Mandarin persona and releases a video taking responsibility for the explosion, framing it as a terrorist act. The move works. While Agent Cleary from the DoDC clearly suspects Trevor is covering for Simon, the agency arrests Trevor instead. Trevor’s choice costs him his freedom but allows Simon to walk away untouched.

With the crisis seemingly behind him, Simon returns to complete the Wonder Man film. Director Von Kovak encourages him to channel his pain into his performance. In a symbolic moment, Simon dons the classic black suit with the red “W,” marking his transformation from a struggling actor to a true star. The show briefly offers a sense of closure as Simon reconciles with his brother, shares a quiet moment with his agent, and attends the film’s premiere.

That calm does not last long. In the final stretch, it is revealed that Simon has been planning something else entirely. Under the guise of researching a new role, he gains access to a DoDC prison through guard Chuck Eastman. Once inside, Simon executes a daring prison break, freeing Trevor. During the escape, Simon reveals a new power: he can fly. The final image shows Simon and Trevor soaring into the sky together, now fugitives.

Update on Season 2

One of the boldest choices in Wonder Man is what it leaves unexplained. The series never reveals how Simon got his powers. The creators have indicated this was intentional, shifting the focus away from origin stories and toward character and emotion. The finale also avoids Avengers cameos, Wanda or Vision connections, and even a post-credits scene.

Marvel has described Wonder Man as a limited series, but the ending clearly leaves room for more. Simon is on the run, Trevor is free, and the DoDC knows Simon is more powerful than before. Whether this story continues may depend on audience response. Update on Season 2 soon.
