In one of the more bizarre tales of job hunting gone wrong, a tech professional shared on Reddit’s r/EntitledPeople how a woman showed up at his small tech company demanding a position—not with a resume or portfolio, but with her IQ score on her phone.

That’s right. No cover letter, no credentials—just an alleged “above-average” score and a lot of confidence.

“She literally just said, ‘I took the IQ test and my score proves I’m qualified,’” the original poster (OP) wrote, still baffled. “It wasn’t even a stellar score. Just... kinda average.”

According to the post, when the OP calmly informed her that their company follows a formal hiring process, she didn’t take it well. Instead, she yelled that her IQ alone should be all they need to consider her the “obvious” choice. “I’m still laughing about it,” OP added, “but also—WTF?!”

Netizens Weigh In: “IQ Isn’t a Skill Set”

As expected, the post quickly attracted thousands of reactions. Many commenters couldn’t help but poke fun at the idea of IQ-as-resume.

“Putting an IQ score on a resume is an automatic red flag,” wrote one user. “It shows pompousness.”

Another added, “She’s missing the entire point. It’s not about having a number—it’s about what you can do.”

Some couldn’t resist the sarcasm. “You should’ve told her she was overqualified,” joked one commenter. Another compared IQ scores to personality tests like Myers-Briggs—fun, but hardly a hiring metric.

One particularly sharp take summed it up: “I love when they misuse percentages and still think they're the smartest in the room.”

Brains vs. Basics

This incident seems to highlight a broader misunderstanding about what employers actually look for. Intelligence tests may reveal cognitive strengths, but they don’t measure collaboration, adaptability, or the technical expertise needed for most modern jobs.

And in an era when interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence are as valuable as any hard skill, leading with an IQ score might not just be ineffective—it could come off as wildly out of touch.

So, if you're planning to land your next job with little more than bravado and a screenshot from a brain quiz? You might want to rethink your approach.
