Viacom18 is all set to expand its digital ecosystem with the launch of VOOT Kids, a new platform that offers a fun and learning experience for children.
Media and entertainment conglomerate Viacom18 announced the launch of India’s first and only multi-format kids’ app, VOOT Kids. With a collection of more than 20,000 videos, e-books, stories and quizzes, VOOT Kids is Viacom18’s maiden voyage in the direct-to-consumer space. At the launch of VOOT Kids, Sudhanshu Vats, group CEO and MD, Viacom18, elaborated on its value proposition in the kids’ genre.
With VOOT Kids, how are you expanding Viacom18’s digital play and business play?
We understand that to keep Viacom18 future ready, we must further amplify our digital portfolio. And while VOOT caters to adults, it made sense for us to bring in a separate kids’ app as we have a lot of local and global IPs. Auguring our foray into the world of subscription-based VoD, VOOT Kids is India’s first and only multi-format kids’ app offering fun and learning across watch, read, listen and learn categories.
Being a category creator, can you tell us what does VOOT Kids have on offer? VOOT Kids has been built on the three pillars of product experience, content and safety. We are bringing an offering that is child-friendly, yet parent-focussed. Being the only kids’ app to be certified by Early Childhood Association (ECA), the app will deliver a holistic experience focussed on viewing, reading, listening and playing. We have partnered with the best of brand owners and leaders like Nickelodeon, Oxford University, Sony Music, Warner Media, Mattel, Hasbro, Kaltura and many more.
How will VOOT Kids empower parents?

VOOT Kids is a category-creating product in the space of digital fun learning, which caters to the needs of parents who seek meaningful screen-time for their child’s mental, emotional and social faculties. With parental control features that allow parents to evaluate progress, limit screen time, track content consumed and usage patterns, VOOT Kids aims to be India’s safest one-stop online destination that entertains, engages and enriches kids, all under one roof.
What is the value proposition for VOOT Kids at the price point you’re offering? At the core of our offering is a multi-format approach that creates holistic value for the family. While an average family spends between Rs 12,000 to Rs 14,000 annually for kids’ entertainment, VOOT Kids is priced at Rs 799 — a fraction of the edutainment expenses.
