Harshad Daswani feels the personal learning during this time has been to pay more attention to work-life balance.
This is a first person account by Harshad Daswani, Founder of The Beach Company, about life in an unprecedented pandemic

On the macro level, I think the diktat of "the greater good" by practising social distancing, work from home etc is all in the interests of our families, communities and the world at large. So although we experience feelings of boredom & anxiety, we are essentially trading our "sick days" for the greater good and that's a principle to use in our businesses going forward to.

On the micro level, I think it's important to understand that we may not be as important & indispensable as we would like to believe. Our cars, homes, or offices do not keep us immune from any life-altering situation (in this case the pandemic we currently are facing). Life will go on, whether you go into the office or work-from-home, and the shirt you took 5 minutes deciding on this morning - well, it doesn't really matter.

The key personal learning during this time has been to pay much much more attention to work-life balances & checks. To spend more time on our own, or family, learning to cook or even draw, regular and consistent exercise, demarcating times for work & sleep, to follow a routine to enhance mental & physical health. In effect, the best thing yet, to take a step back!

And of course, the right to internet should be a basic human right!

Using the time to upskill
I have started honing my culinary skills. This morning breakfast was avocado, with pico de gallo and fried eggs! And not to forget my efforts at being accepted by the millennials by baking my own banana bread!

More important, I have returned to enhancing old skills and have started getting better. I have gotten back to my boxing, and currently train with a company called ForceFit over video calls. It's been incredible shadow boxing in such a new / novel way! It sets a very good routine to the day, and helps me focus on work much better post my session. Ofcourse trimming those inches off is an added bonus.

Harshad Daswani has also decided to enhance his academic learning during lockdown.

Another crucial change has been to enhance my academic learning. I have taken to online learning (which seems to be a trend going forward till this pandemic is not ended) at Coursera & FutureLearn. I have followed the course on sustainability in fashion (London College Of Fashion) to keep my work-related learning on par, and on a personal note I have returned to studying about global diplomacy (SOAS University Of London), a subject & career close to my heart that I could not do on my return to India post university. I will continue to pursue courses in these fields.
