A case for continuous learning: Coursera boss enrolled in happiness course from ISB; says Indians big on data science programs

Gupta is mid-way through an ISB course, titled, ‘A life of fulfillment & happiness.’

When Raghav Gupta, MD - India & APAC, Coursera took the mic at the ET Global Business Summit last week, he shared with the audience an anecdote from not more than 30 minutes before. Speaking during the second half of the day, he shared an interaction he had with one of the servers during lunch. The server noticed the company name on Gupta’s identity card and informed him that he was currently taking a Python course. He went on to make a financial pitch aid at the end of the conversation.

The point Gupta was trying to make was about the trend of upskilling through continuous learning. And as it turns out he walks the talk.

He is mid-way through an ISB course, titled, ‘A life of fulfillment & happiness.’ “Professor Raghu (Rajagopal Raghunathan) who has created this course is a celebrity. It’s a long course, around 20 hours. The title is intriguing. How do you learn happiness?,” Gupta told ET Panache.

Another popular course for him is 'Learning how to learn' by McMaster University, University of California San Diego. “The topic makes a lot of sense. You take the course and you go, ‘I wish I’d taken it in class 9,’” he added.

The talk is all about upskilling and continuous learning these days. And the online space with numerous players like upGrad, Udemy and Udacity, to name a few is the new frontier in learning.

And what’s India learning the most? The top three learning areas are business, technology and data sciences as per Gupta.
