Looking for Dussehra or Diwali inspiration? Take your style cues from designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, the masters of wedding and festive fashion. A Fresh Take on Traditional Taking classics and reinventing them is what couturiers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla do best. Their recent showcase, held last month, revisited three decades of style including the designers’ love for chikankari and their fascination with white.
“I like to call it a diverse collection,” Khosla was quoted as saying. “There was madness, colour, fun in one segment, followed by our classic whites, beiges, pastels with intensive embroideries.”
From monochrome stripes to embroidery in a feast of colours, here are a few trends we spotted at the showcase that men should definitely experiment with this festival season:
Boys just want to have fun Oozing swagger and style, the Mard by Abu Sandeep debut collection features a range of black outfits that come alive with applique and embroidery in a feast of colours. According to the designers, this season is all about taking classics and reinventing them with a twist of fabulous and a dash of whimsy. It’s about having fun with your clothes while making a statement.

Mard is visionary, experimental and set to become path-breaking as it sets new rules of sartorial style for the modern male,” said the designers.
This season is all about taking classics and reinventing them with a twist of fabulous and a dash of whimsy. Wider trouser silhouettes Unlike the popular trend of skinny fit or slim fit trousers that dominated the last few seasons, the designers decided to widen the trouser silhouettes on certain outfits.
When asked post show, Khosla said, “We intentionally did it. We said let’s just keep it easier because you have to go easier somewhere along the line. And, if you notice, it was with the jewelled jackets, the oxidised silver jacket. It’s more stylised. We wanted to take it to another level of formal with a little bit of kink to it.”

Playing with layers and prints Another trend that the designers dabbled with was multi-layered kurtas and jackets across the black and white collection and the ‘Circle of Life’ motif.
Playing with layers and prints. Still confused? Asked where customers who are looking to experiment but don’t know where to start, Khosla said, “I’d point him to the Candies first which you can wear for a more casual evening or to a wedding afterwards. And then we’d take them (the customer) layer by layer. It all depends on how heavy or light they want to be (for the festive season).”
“The second part of the show (the fifty shades of white collection) is serious, it’s more wedding intended. If customers want to dress up that heavy for the festive season, they’re more than welcome to do so. But usually, they prefer to keep it light, airy and still formal.”
It all depends on how heavy or light one wants to keep their dressing for the festive season.
