Fashion seems to have occupied an important place in today's world. From top-to-toe, every bit of how an individual dresses up is taken into count and that has made more people cautious of how their style statement.

In such a scenario, fashion duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla have an important piece of advice for those who are struggling to get their style quotient in place.

Style advice

“When you transcend trends and gimmickry and choose to set your own rules, you make a style statement. Use your youth to experiment and find looks that work for you. There is a time when mistakes are charming. Use it to indulge whims and trends. But as you mature, so must your sense of style. Avoid checks and horizontal stripes if you are a larger man. They do your body no favours. Also steer clear of loud labels on belts and clothes. It screams, ‘Trying too hard. And failing’”.

You can never go wrong with…
“The classics. A white button-down dress shirt, a blazer, sherwani, bandhgala (in both linen and wool) and blue jeans. Easy to customise but don’t mess with perfection.”

A classic bandhgala. It is a perfect ambassador of Indian style with its inherent lineage of Indian heritage, in a contemporary world. What makes the bandhgala interesting is that it can be worn differently in different parts of the world —be it with breeches, or with denims.

“If you’re conservative, a pair of statement shoes will put the quirk into your look. A bit of whimsy is essential. Remember, comfort must always be the first priority. Once the soles wear down, throw them out. And for heaven’s sake, do not forget a pedicure. Grooming is non-negotiable.”

To clinch a deal
“Wear an ensemble that whispers strength, confidence and personality. Remember, the man maketh the man. The clothes only serve him. There are some fortunate men whose personality carries them through even the worst fashion sense and careless dressing. They are rare. For the rest of us, looking good means dressing well.”

When it comes to accessorising…
“Mix it up and make them distinctive without looking alien or forced. Not every man can wear jewellery, but jewellery is beyond fabulous on the right man.”
