Virat Kohli slammed for 'ill-timed' promotional tweet amidst Pulwama attacks
Valentine's evening wasn't celebrated with much fervour in India as the nation was shaken by the horrifying Pulwama attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Over 40 CRPF jawans were martyred in the terrorist activity and numerous others were left injured.

As the nation mourned the loss, the film fraternity and the sports world, too, expressed grief on what is being considered one of the deadliest attacks in recent history. Cricketers Gautam Gambhir, Mohammad Kaif and Virendra Sehwag condemned the attacks and demanded action against it.

However, on Thursday Virat Kohli's Twitter timeline didn't see any reaction about the attack, rather - in what is being slammed as 'ill-timed' - the Indian skipper tweeted a promotional post about the Indian Sports Honours.

The 30-year-old captain later deleted the tweet, and posted a message expressing grief and offering condolences to the martyred soldiers.

However, his earlier - now-deleted- tweet requesting fans to vote for their favourite club was not received well given the sensitivity of the situation, and the captain received flak on Twitter.

During the attack which took place in the Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday evening, a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (known as VBIED) was targeted at the CRPF bus. The vehicle carried 100 kg of explosives and was rammed into the bus killing 37 and severely injuring the rest.

The brutal attacks were followed by requests for action against the culprit, 20-year-old Adil Ahmad of Jaish-e-Mohammad, who later owned up to the act. The suicide bomber is believed to have joined a terrorist group a year ago.
