Veteran Telugu actor Krishna passes away at 80 in Hyderabad

Veteran Telugu actor Krishna passed away on Tuesday at a private hospital in Hyderabad. The actor was undergoing treatment after he suffered a cardiac arrest. He was 80 years old.

Krishna, the father of Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu, was admitted to the hospital on Monday. The actor was put on a ventilator. The 80-year-old was being treated by a team of doctors from various disciplines after the cardiac arrest.

The actor died around 4 am on Tuesday according to sources from the hospital. On Monday, several news outlets reported that the actor was hospitalised. However, there were no official statements from the actor’s family.


The actor hailed as superstar Krishna, was active in the Telugu film industry for over six decades and has worked in over 350 films. He began his career with minor roles in films such as ‘Kula Gothralu’ (1961), ‘Paravu Prathishtha’ (1963) and ‘Padandi Mundhuku’ (1962).

Born as Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Murthy, Krishna was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2009.
