Veteran actress Asha Parekh to be honoured with Dada Saheb Phalke Award

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur announced the news on Tuesday. He said that President Droupadi Murmu will present the award to the actress at the 68th National Film Awards in Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi.
The five-member Dada Saheb Phalke Award committee comprised well-known names from the industry - Asha Bhosle, Hema Malini, Poonam Dhillon, Udit Narayan, and TS Nagabharana - who picked Parekh’s name for the honour.

— Anurag Thakur (@ianuragthakur) 1664266130000Last year, south superstar Rajinikanth received the 2019 Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Previously, veteran megastars such as Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna have also received the honour in 2018 and 2017, respectively.
With a career spanning close to five decades, Parekh started her acting journey at the young age of 10. She debuted as a child artist in the 1952 film 'Aasmaan'. Two years later, she starred in Bimal Roy's 'Baap Beti'.
As a director and producer, Parekh helmed the acclaimed TV drama 'Kora Kagaz' during the late 1990s. For her contribution to Indian cinema, she was conferred with the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award in 1992.
After years of experience in the industry, the legendary actress was picked as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Chairperson for three years - between 1998 and 2001. She became the first woman chairperson of CBFC.
Besides her filmography, she also turned an author with her 2017 autobiography 'The Hit Girl', co-written by film critic Khalid Mohamed.
