Ultimate Ears Boom 3 review: Speakers that come with a 'magic' button, can float on water
The ‘magic' button lets users play/pause and switch between tracks.

Long press it and you can launch your favorite playlist. However, this function is limited only to Apple Music on iOS and Deezer Premium on Android (you will need to use the Boom app to configure this functionality). We love that it’s IP67 certified (water and dust proof) and the bonus is that it also floats on water — there’s a new swimming pool party trick! Bluetooth range has been enhanced to 150 feet so it has much better connectivity compared to any other speaker in this price segment. Audio output remains unchanged from the Boom 2: you get fantastic sound with deep thumping bass and unmatched volume.

Even at 50%, the speaker delivers room-filling audio for a mid size room. If you crank it up to maximum volume, the bass tends to become muddy — this didn’t happen on the Boom 2 in our experience. Battery life is another surprise — since we didn’t need to go over 50% volume level, the speaker lasted almost 14 hours on a single charge. Ultimate Ears has delivered a great speaker once again, but the competition has grown and you get a lot of good options in this price segment such as the Marshall Kilburn and the Bose SoundTouch 10.
