Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic stars Yash alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria. While there has been speculation about its digital release, the makers have not officially announced an OTT platform or premiere date. Here is what reports say about the film’s streaming deal.
Toxic OTT release and platform update
According to a report by 123Telugu, several major streaming platforms had reportedly offered around Rs. 150 crore for the digital rights of Toxic before its theatrical release. However, Yash is said to have turned down those offers while hoping to secure a higher amount. The film reportedly entered theatres without a finalised OTT agreement. This meant that the digital deal remained uncertain while the team waited to see how the movie performed at the box office.
The same reports suggest that the film’s reported commercial performance affected the negotiations. However, the details of the offers and the status of the discussions have not been officially confirmed by the makers or the streaming platforms involved.
Why is ZEE5 reportedly in the picture?
According to the latest reports, ZEE5 has offered around Rs. 30 crore for the digital streaming rights of Toxic. This reported amount is considerably lower than the Rs. 150 crore offers said to have been made before the theatrical release. There is also speculation that the proposed deal comes with a payment condition. Reports suggest that the platform may pay half the amount upfront, with the remaining sum linked to a pay-per-view model, under which viewers pay separately to watch the film.
Neither ZEE5 nor the film’s team has officially confirmed the reported offer or its terms. It is therefore unclear whether the parties have reached an agreement or whether negotiations are still underway.
For a big-budget film, the timing of an OTT agreement can affect its overall revenue plans. In Toxic’s case, the reported delay in finalising the deal has drawn attention because the digital rights were not locked before the theatrical release. However, the financial details circulating online should be treated as reports until an official statement is issued.
