Yash has returned to the big screen with a bang. After the blockbuster success of K.G.F: Chapter 2, the Rocking Star has made his much-awaited comeback with Toxic, a gangster drama directed by Geetu Mohandas. The film has opened across multiple Indian languages and has reportedly crossed the Rs 100 crore mark on its first day. According to Sacnilk, Toxic earned an estimated Rs 101.10 crore net in India on opening day.

Yash’s Toxic has made a massive start at the Indian box office, reportedly crossing Rs 100 crore on its opening day. According to Sacnilk, the film collected an estimated Rs 101.10 crore net in India on Day 1 across all languages. Its reported India gross collection has reached around Rs 140 crore. Toxic was released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, giving Yash’s latest film a wide pan-India reach.

According to the figures provided by Sacnilk, the film’s estimated India net collection was:


Hindi: Rs 55 crore

Kannada: Rs 23.30 crore

Telugu: Rs 16 crore

Tamil: Rs 5.50 crore

The Kannada star’s home market contributed significantly to the opening, while the Hindi version emerged as the biggest contributor on Day 1.

Yash returns after K.G.F: Chapter 2

Toxic marks Yash’s first release in four years and his first film since the blockbuster K.G.F: Chapter 2. The actor returns to the gangster genre with the Geetu Mohandas directorial, playing a dual role in the film. Toxic also features five female leads, including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth and Huma Qureshi.

The combination of Yash’s massive popularity following the K.G.F franchise and the film’s dark crime setting had generated considerable anticipation ahead of its release.

What is Toxic about?

Billed as Toxic: A Fairytale for Grownups, the film is described as a violent revenge saga set against the world of crime. The period gangster drama is set in 1950s Goa, offering a different backdrop from the K.G.F films. The official logline of the film on IMDb describes the story as one in which Portuguese rule in Goa begins to crumble while Raya, played by Yash, rises through betrayal and bloodshed to take control of the city’s underworld. The story also explores the price that comes with power.

The film has been shot in Kannada and English and is being released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam and is produced by KVN Productions and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations.

Toxic faced multiple delays before release

The road to Toxic’s theatrical release was not straightforward. The film was initially scheduled for release in March, where it was expected to clash with Dhurandhar 2. However, the release was postponed to June amid the war in the Middle East. Toxic subsequently missed its June release date as well, with the makers citing post-production delays. Eventually, August 26 was announced as the film’s release date.
