Kapoor said that it was a very complicated issue, and she didn't "understand it much because there is so much contrasting news, contrary news, everywhere."
Sonam Kapoor recently joined the brigade of Bollywood stars talking about the revoking of Article 370 in Kashmir. Several actors including Anupam Kher, Kangana Ranaut, Raveena Tandon had taken to Twitter when the Government announced its decision on August 5.

In an interview to the BBC, Kapoor said that the Kashmir issue as she gauged was a "very complicated issue". She also mentioned that she thought it was sensible for her to keep quiet as "there is so much contrasting news, contrary news, everywhere".

"It's heartbreaking to see where the situation has landed right now, but I am very patriotic. So I think for me now it's better to keep quiet and let this pass, because this too shall pass," she said in the interview.

The 34-year-old star, while invoking her "half-Sindhi and half-Peshawari" roots in Pakistan, also harked back to the unified entity that existed in the sub-continent before the Partition in 1947, and lamented the way politics has pawned the aspiration of the people.

"Our countries were one country like 70 years ago and the fact that there is so much divisive politics at play is really heartbreaking. (Kashmir) It's a beautiful place but it's been under so much duress, and I don't think anybody knows who's right now; I don't think they themselves know who's right," she said, referring to the situation in the Valley.

The revoking of Article 370 has resulted in bilateral ties being strained at the moment with train and bus services, and trade being suspended. Indian films, too, have been banned in Pakistan following the NDA government's decision.

Kapoor's own film 'Neerja', based on the Pan Am Flight 73 that was hijacked by terrorists during a stopover in Karachi, was not allowed to be screened in Pakistan when it released in 2016. The actor while recalling the episode, said that she was upset over Pakistan's behaviour, and batted for a peaceful discourse.

Twitter, of course, had a different take on her peace-building measure. Her comments led to memes, including a picture that showed her actor-father Anil Kapoor with Dawood Ibrahim.

Kapoor, also took to the microblogging site to issue a statement, in the light of the trolls attacking her. "Twisting, misinterpreting and understanding what you want from what someone has to say isn’t a reflection on the person who says it but on you," she wrote on her Twitter handle.
