Lifestyle-video app Trell is providing a platform to share experiences and reviews across various categories.

While social media has given a voice to many, a number of Indians that may not hail from affluent backgrounds feel uncomfortable in accessing the same, owing to language barriers and a lack of technical know-how.

Trell enables users to create visual blogs around lifestyle experiences by stitching together photos and videos on their smartphone and adding voice notes in the language they speak. Content consumers, on the other hand, get an opportunity to engage with meaningful content in their language that is visual, personalised to their liking, and from a trusted and likeminded source, a peer.

Launched in August 2017 by Arun Lodhi, Bimal Kartheek Rebba, Prashant Sachan and Pulkit Agarwal to help people explore di fferent lifestyle interests and comfortably share their passion, the platform now has over 80 million downloads. It has regional content in eight different languages including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam and English.

Trell has seen 27x growth over the past 18 months. The platform now has over 18 million creators who are sharing their interests with a like-minded community of over 30 million active users every day. Current ly, users are enjoying content in over 20 categories such as food, fashion, technology, movies and TV reviews, personal care and more, through three-minute-vertical videos in their native language.

The platform’s success can be seen through the user feedback on PlayStore, which has a strike rate of 4.6.

Commenting on the future of the platform, Agarwal, cofounder and CEO , says, “We are humbled by the love our users have for Trell and will continue to strive towards making it the best lifestyle community platform in India. Our area of focus is on ensuring that our community is growing, our users are bui lding meaningful connections and that they are provided a seamless and unmatched experience on the platform.”

“I decided to use this opportunity to improve my physical conditioning. I started cycling (after more than 40 years) inside my gated community from mid-April. I went from seven kilometres per ride to 20 kilometres by the end of June. Recently, I did a 52-kilometre ride to Chikka Tirupathi [on the outskirts of Bengaluru]. Cycling has had a huge impact, not just on my physical conditioning but also my confidence.”

“Startups are quite demanding, so I’ve never been able to work out more than three days a week, even when I trained for the Ironman Triathlon. So, when the lockdown was announced, I decided to challenge myself with a ‘consistency goal’ of accomplishing a workout a day. It began with coordinated workouts on Zoom with my friends and as restrictions eased, I started going for outdoor runs. There were days when there would be so many calls that I’d be seen climbing the building stairs at 10 pm. I now have more than 100 days of workouts under my belt and it has been the biggest stressbuster.”

“During the lockdown, I have managed to master single-leg burpees. It’s important to have a defined schedule and stick to it. I ensure that I block out some time during the day for exercise. I work out at home daily with various bodyweight exercises — I do pushups, burpees and air squats. I love doing CrossFit and high-intensity interval training that combines weightlifting, aerobics, powerlifting and gymnastics.”
