The funny thing about staying home
A bestselling author’s insights should tickle those intimidated by house arrest.

But India — and, indeed, other ‘civilisations’ that are now indoors perforce — appear to be in no imminent danger of extinction on that count even amid a pandemic, as humour is spreading almost as fast as the virus and will hopefully soon overtake it in speed.
Her bestseller, 'Aunt Erma’s Cope Book: How to Get From Monday to Friday…in 12 Days', would be of the greatest use for the many people worldwide suddenly faced with the daunting task of being at home (alone or otherwise) for weeks on end. Her attitude to the everyday vicissitudes of family life bears emulation: inventive, indefatigable, irrepressible and always, but always, cheerful. That, of course, is a big ask for those who are not as habituated to home-and-hearth for extended periods, but Bombeck’s adventures and insights chronicled in 15 books and many articles, at least show that it can be done.

Staying at home is not as terrifyingly hard as it is being made out to be. It can be a laugh too.
