The bald & beautiful: Is 'Bala' the same as 'Ujda Chaman'?

Some coincidences are too good to be true.

They say good things come in pairs and that seems to be true when it comes to Bollywood making films on male baldness. Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably know that Bollywood has been taking hair loss problems a bit too seriously.

Bollywood’s latest offerings are two films, both of which are based on male baldness - 'Bala' starring Ayushmann Khurrana, and 'Ujda Chaman' starring Sunny Singh of 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety' fame.

Based on the trailers, it seems that both actors have tried to essay the roles of two men struggling with insecurities that male baldness brings with it. However, on watching the trailers, one can easily figure out that they have an uncanny resemblance, one that cannot be attributed to mere coincidence.

Sure, coincidences happen, but some coincidences are too good to be true. For instance, both Ayushmann Khurrana and Sunny Singh play the roles of teachers.

Surprise, surprise! Sunny Singh also plays a teacher who is mocked by his students. Such originality, much wow! (Image: YouTube/ Panorama Studios)

And guess what? The previews show that both teachers are bullied by their students. Both men face difficulties when it comes to mingling with the opposite sex. Both men approach doctors to get their hair fixed at some point in the films.

Of course, the filmmakers are playing into clichés here, which is probably why there are so many similarities in the first place. While some of them can be excused, you have to admit that both men having the same occupation is too happy a coincidence.

So, the question remains - what’s cooking in Bollywood? Are the filmmakers running out of good ideas? Or are these coincidences intentional?

Here are the trailers for both the films. Watch them and see if you can spot some more similarities.
