Gen Z employee rejects promotion at work
Career coach Simon Ingari has dropped a post on his X-handle where he talked about one such employee who rejected a promotion just because she was asked to put in extra work hours, highlighting how Gen Z values mental health and respects boundaries.
According to Simon Ingari, the conversation began when a manager informed the employee that she would be promoted to a management role. But the new role would require her to work beyond the standard 40-hour week. Instead of instantly agreeing, the employee calmly declined the offer, making it clear that she was not interested in taking on a leadership position.
Gen Z employee leaves manager stunned
The employee’s response surprised the manager, who told her that career growth and promotions should be universal goals of working professionals. However, she stood her ground, explaining that she was satisfied in her current role and valued the work-life balance it offered. While the employee acknowledged the appeal of higher pay, she also considered the downside of such a promotion, like longer work hours, added pressure, and less personal time.
