Tamil New Year 2022: Southern stars Suriya, Ram Charan, AR Rahman wish fans on Puthandu

Actors from the Southern film industry welcomed the Tamil New Year with fervour. People of Tamil Nadu and across the world are celebrating Puthandu or Puthuvarudam with great joy and enthusiasm. Every year, Puthandu is celebrated on April 14, also the first day of the month of Chithirai according to the Tamil calendar.

Southern superstars Suriya, Ram Charan, Karthi, ace musician AR Rahman, and several personalities from the Tamil and Telugu industries took to their social media to wish and greet their fans.

Actor Suriya, who is widely known for films like ‘Jai Bhim’ and ‘Soorarai Pottru’ wished his fans on the occasion in a unique way. Suriya, dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, was seen walking a bull in a pastoral setting. The actor can be heard saying, “ Happy Tamil New Year,” in Tamil while walking the bull. The short clip shared by the actor went viral instantly garnering over 23K likes and over 5K retweets. The post also witnessed comments from his ardent fans who were impressed by the actor’s humble avatar.

Meanwhile, Ram Charan who has become a pan-Indian icon after his recent success ‘RRR’ took to his Twitter to share his greetings on the occasion. Charan has a considerable fan base in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The actor in his tweet in Tamil wished health and prosperity to all.
Music maestro AR Rahman too wished his fans on Twitter.
Puthandu celebrations coincide with the celebration of Vishu in Kerala, Bihu in Assam, and Baisakhi in Punjab. The day is celebrated with family with several households preparing a platter of fresh fruits, vegetables, and other auspicious things. Families prepare an altar at home and perform puja, and also throng nearby temples to ring in the new year.

Outside Tamil Nadu, Puthandu is celebrated in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Mauritius, Malaysia and several other nations that have a sizeable population of Tamil people.
