Taapsee Pannu is one of the most versatile actresses in the industry. She is currently receiving praise for her portrayal in Assi, directed by Anubhav Sinha, which hit theatres on February 20. According to Sacnilk.com, the film has earned approximately Rs 2.6 crore at the box office so far. While promoting the movie, the actress got candid about her personal life, career choices and the values that continue to shape her despite success.

In a recent conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, Taapsee revealed that she spends Rs 1 lakh per month on her nutritionist. For her, this is not an indulgence but a professional necessity. She explained that as an actor, maintaining her health and fitness is directly connected to her work. If she does not invest in something that strengthens her performance and stamina, she questions where else the money should go.

The actress made it clear that she sees this expense as similar to how other professionals invest in tools or training essential for their careers. For her, staying physically fit is part of maintaining credibility and delivering her best on screen. She believes that spending on one’s profession is justified when it helps improve output and sustain longevity in a competitive industry.

How did middle-class values shape Taapsee's life?

However, Taapsee also clarified that she is mindful of money in other aspects of life. She shared that she avoids unnecessary luxury spending. For instance, if a restaurant offers a fixed expensive menu while the same dishes are available at a more reasonable price elsewhere, she would rather choose the affordable option. According to her, being practical with money is a habit she has never outgrown.

Taapsee credited her grounded outlook to her mother’s middle-class mindset. She said she does not consciously think about behaving like a “middle-class person” because, for her, it is simply normal life. Growing up, she saw how her family valued saving, preserving and reusing things.

She humorously shared that her house is filled with boxes and containers, most of which her mother refuses to throw away. From old packets to clothing tags that usually end up in the dustbin, her mother carefully stores them. When Taapsee once questioned why clothing tags were being saved, her mother replied that they could be used as bookmarks someday. While she and her sister were surprised, she admitted that technically, her mother was not wrong.

The actress also spoke about how her extended family is extremely cautious with money. She joked that they are “saving kings and queens” and often teases her for being slightly different. One example that stood out was her mother carrying vegetables from Delhi to Mumbai in check-in luggage because they were slightly cheaper there. According to her mother, even saving Rs 10 matters, and she prefers travelling a little farther to buy vegetables at a lower price rather than paying extra near upscale apartments.

Beyond finances, Taapsee also opened up about the differences she noticed after moving from Delhi to Mumbai. She said one of the biggest changes for her was the sense of safety in Mumbai. For the first time, she could step out late at night and travel in public transport without fear. That freedom and security left a strong impression on her.
