For a profession built on compliance and control, this was one exception nobody wanted to audit. At one of the country’s leading consulting firms with a sizeable Gurugram office, a few Gen Z employees skipped work to join the recent student protest at Jantar Mantar—without so much as informing their managers or applying for leave. The bosses noticed but quietly let it slide. “Gen Zs are not easy to deal with,” admitted one manager. “If we insisted on a leave application, who knows, they might organise a dharna in the office lobby. We decided not to open that file.” Sometimes the cheapest settlement is one you never negotiate!
