The producer suggested that fans should not try to predict the story based on what they have seen so far. According to him, the third chapter will have the elements that audiences have enjoyed in the earlier films, but its direction will still come as a revelation.
Why is Stree 3 taking longer to arrive?
Before returning to the Stree franchise, Amar Kaushik has another major project to complete.Dinesh Vijan shared that, "Amar Kaushik is most integral part of ‘Stree’ and horror-comedy franchise. He directs our most ambitious film in January end, which is, Bhagwan Parshuram story, called, ‘Mahavatar’. He finishes that in June and end of next year, we go on floors (for ‘Stree 3’)."
For the unversed, the first Stree movie, released in 2018, marked his theatrical directorial debut and went on to become a major success. The franchise returned with Stree 2 in 2024, with Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor reprising their roles.
Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor are expected to return for the third instalment, although the latest announcement did not provide a detailed cast confirmation.
From Stree to a horror-comedy universe
The original Stree started as a relatively small independent film but eventually became the starting point for Maddock Films’ interconnected horror-comedy universe. The franchise later expanded with films including Roohi, Bhediya, Munjya, Stree 2 and Thamma.Looking back at the beginning of the franchise, Rajkummar Rao recalled how strongly the team believed in the story and Kaushik’s vision. He described the first film as a small-budget project where the cast and crew worked with a lot of energy and camaraderie.
Rao also remembered Kaushik’s reaction when Stree started performing strongly at the box office. The actor said the director was initially nervous when the film crossed around Rs 70–75 crore, even though Rao saw the numbers as a sign that audiences were enjoying the movie.
According to Rao, Kaushik was more prepared when Stree 2 went on to achieve a much bigger response. The actor credited the team’s chemistry and the filmmaker’s approach as important parts of what made the franchise work.
Now, with the Stree 3 script ready and production planned for late 2027, the next chapter is beginning to take shape. Stay tuned for more updates!
