Spocto CTO's simple fitness regime: Meditation, yoga, intermittent fasting and a glass of wine

The lockdown taught Puja Srivastava that home-cooked food can tantalise our taste buds.

Puja Srivastava, Co-Founder & CTO, Spocto, is hopeful to get one session of hair spa and pedicure before bidding adieu to 2020. The tech boss revealed that her fitness secret lies in the balance between a glass of wine and intermittent fasting, coupled with yoga and meditation.

Lockdown cravings
“Well, the list is long. One of the first things I would like to do is go meet my mom who stays by herself in Delhi. I have been missing my interactions with the social service projects I have been involved in, including those with the transgenders and street children under the Goregaon highway though I have been sending food, money, ration etc. and we have been communicating on WhatsApp.

“I miss meeting my colleagues in person. Though we are getting more accomplished at interacting with each other over the internet , I think the personal touch is missing. I believe a lot in relationships and feel that virtual interactions are like long-distance relationships. The distance has to be measured before irrelevancy crawls in.”

Holiday
“I would love to visit the Lucknow Lit Fest, as it was something I had planned to do this year. There would be no greater joy than sitting by the river Gomti and immersing oneself in the rich cultural heritage of the city of Awadhi cuisine, Chikan work and the mind blowing shayari. Jerusalem, the city which gave birth to three religions, is also a place I am dying to explore.”

Indulgence
“Hair spa and pedicure were my weekend indulgences and I look forward to at least one session before we bid adieu to 2020. The lockdown has, in fact, taught us that instead of wasting time in trying to get to a restaurant, our taste buds could be tantalized by some amazing home-cooked food. I miss dining at Mirchi and Mime, and hope that they reopen soon. I definitely miss ‘tapri chai’ and idli after a morning walk on Sundays.”

Puja Srivastava, along with a friend, started an Instagram handle, @yarn_about_yarns, which features stories about sarees.

Shopping
“Over the past couple of years I have become an ardent supporter of ‘The Six Yards.’ I have tried to support many weavers like Tata Arpan, Maheswari, the Rewa Society and others through the lockdown, and am now looking forward to draping the packed marvels.”

Tech
“I have investigated a lot of tools for enhancing employee productivity and better process management. A tool worth mentioning is ZOHO Sprint, an agile project management platform that has helped the team metamorphose into the agile methodology very smoothly. The courses from Udemy have come in handy. WebEx and Google Meet have been critical in transitioning the journey to a virtual conference room or rather to anytime/anywhere meetings.”

Hobbies
“My friend and I started our Instagram handle @yarn_about_yarns. It features stories about our sarees, from where we bought them to how we chose to wear them.
I have also been reading a lot about Hindu philosophy and the Hindu way of life. Alongside that, I am also pursuing a course in advanced data science from the University of Berkley.”

Fitness
“My fitness regimen is pretty simple: intermittent fasting and gluten-free vegetarian food, coupled with yoga, Sadhguru’s mindfulness-based meditation exercises, and a glass of wine.”

“I decided to use this opportunity to improve my physical conditioning. I started cycling (after more than 40 years) inside my gated community from mid-April. I went from seven kilometres per ride to 20 kilometres by the end of June. Recently, I did a 52-kilometre ride to Chikka Tirupathi [on the outskirts of Bengaluru]. Cycling has had a huge impact, not just on my physical conditioning but also my confidence.”

“Startups are quite demanding, so I’ve never been able to work out more than three days a week, even when I trained for the Ironman Triathlon. So, when the lockdown was announced, I decided to challenge myself with a ‘consistency goal’ of accomplishing a workout a day. It began with coordinated workouts on Zoom with my friends and as restrictions eased, I started going for outdoor runs. There were days when there would be so many calls that I’d be seen climbing the building stairs at 10 pm. I now have more than 100 days of workouts under my belt and it has been the biggest stressbuster.”

“During the lockdown, I have managed to master single-leg burpees. It’s important to have a defined schedule and stick to it. I ensure that I block out some time during the day for exercise. I work out at home daily with various bodyweight exercises — I do pushups, burpees and air squats. I love doing CrossFit and high-intensity interval training that combines weightlifting, aerobics, powerlifting and gymnastics.”
