‘Size doesn’t matter.’ The future of warfare will be different, says Anand Mahindra

The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia is impacting geopolitics like never before. While the war has resulted in human suffering and loss of life, its economic impact is likely to have a far-reaching impact on the world.

The war in Ukraine has turned over a million people into refugees, while numerous sanctions have been imposed on Russia.

The Chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra, who is quite active on Twitter with his insightful posts had a unique take on modern warfare. The Mahindra boss said that in the future of warfare, how much a nation spends on its defence will not matter, but how smartly it spends will matter the most.


“Size doesn’t matter.’ The future of warfare will be different. In the Ukraine, armed drones are playing havoc with convoys of tanks. It’s not how much we spend but how smartly we spend that will matter,” read the business tycoon’s tweet.
Mahindra had tweeted the above while sharing a Times of India report about China increasing its defence budget by 7.1 per cent.

According to the report, China on Saturday had announced that it will increase its defence budget by 7.1 per cent to USD 230 billion from USD 209 billion. This is three times the amount of India’s military spending.

The 66-year-old businessman has been sharing his thoughts about the Ukraine-Russia conflict ever since it broke out.

On February 24, when Russia declared war on Ukraine and launched a full-scale invasion, the Mahindra boss shared that he had lived through two wars during his childhood.
In his tweet, he said that the present war reawakened those nightmarish memories. He lamented that despite the past horrors, the world did not learn any lessons from history.
