Singer Kanika Kapoor, known for hit numbers like ‘Baby Doll’, has issued a clarification on the Covid-19 controversy and accusations of not practising social distancing. 21 days after returning home from the Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow where the singer was undergoing treatment, Kapoor took to Instagram to share her side of the story.

In her statement, the 41-year-old said that she is aware of ‘several versions of stories out there’ about her. She reiterated that she chose to stay silent not because she was wrong, but because she was fully aware of the ‘misunderstandings and wrong exchanges of information’.

The singer then shared the sequence of events that had played out according to her, clarifying that every single person she had come in contact with in the UK, Mumbai and Lucknow, had tested negative for Covid-19. She also recalled that she had travelled from the UK to Mumbai on March 10 and was duly screened at the airport, dismissing rumours of collusion with airport authorities.

‘There was no advisory that day that stated that I needed to quarantine myself. I showed no ill health so didn’t quarantine myself’, Kapoor wrote.

The crooner said that she travelled to Lucknow on March 11 to see her family. On March 14 and 15, she attended lunch and dinner hosted by a friend. Further, Kapoor clarified that she didn’t host a party. ‘I had symptoms on March 17 and 18 so I requested to be tested’.

The voice behind hit number ‘Supergirl from China’ said that she was subsequently discharged after 3 negative tests and had been at home for the past 21 days. Thanking the doctors and nurses who ‘have so graciously taken care of me during a very emotionally testing time’, she signed off with a positive thought. ‘Negativity thrown at a person does not change reality,’ concluded Kapoor.

A few hours later, the ‘Desi Look’ hitmaker shared a photograph on Instagram having tea with her parents. ‘All you need is a warm smile, a warm heart and a warm cup of tea,’ wrote Kapoor.

Kapoor had tested positive for Covid-19 for the first time on March 20. Kapoor’s test result sent shockwaves around the country. The 41-year-old became the first face from B-Town to test positive for the disease and faced severe backlash for not practicing social distancing.

Subsequently, the singer was tested positive four times. She was also booked for negligence by the UP Police.
