Shilpa Shetty defends husband Raj Kundra, tells Mumbai Police films are not 'pornography but erotica'

MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty was questioned by the Mumbai Police on Friday in a case related to her husband's arrest where the Yoga enthusiast defended Raj Kundra saying that he is "innocent".

After businessman Kundra's arrest in a case of alleged production and distribution of pornographic films through apps, cops on Friday recorded Shetty's statement where she denied her involvement in the matter.

Shetty told the cops that "erotica is different from porn and her husband Raj Kundra wasn't involved in producing porn 'content'," reported ANI quoting sources.



The actress further accused Kundra's brother-in-law Pradeep Bakshi of being involved with the app and its functioning.

The police recorded Shetty's statement at her house in suburban Juhu on Friday afternoon, an official told PTI. The crime branch of Mumbai Police also conducted a search of the house and seized a laptop, according to reports.

As Shetty was a director of Viaan Industries, Kundra's firm, the police decided to question her, an official told the news agency, adding that she had later resigned from the post.

The actress was recently trolled on social media after she urged fans to watch her comedy-drama 'Hungama 2', which hit OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar on Friday amid her husband Kundra's arrest.

Taking to her Twitter account, Shilpa shared the poster of the film and wrote: I believe and practice the teachings of Yoga, 'The only place where life exists is the present moment, NOW'. Hungama 2 involves the relentless efforts of an entire team that's worked very hard to make a good film, and the film shouldn't suffer... ever!

She urged her fans to watch the film for the sake of every single person attached with the project.


As soon as the actress shared the post, many Twitter users took to the comment section to slam her. "Just stand with your man, lady," one user wrote.

While another user said, "Your yoga should be the last thing on your mind as you portrayed the perfect family unit on all social platforms."




In her first post on social media since her husband's arrest, Shetty had used a line from author James Thurder's book which read: "Do not look back in anger, or forward in fear, but around in awareness." The cryptic message posted on Instagram Story earlier on Friday grabbed the major attention and made headlines.

Earlier, a court extended Kundra's police custody till July 27. He was arrested in the case on July 19.
