MUMBAI: Businessman Raj Kundra was in the process of inking a deal to sell 119 adult films for $1.2 million, the Mumbai police told a local court on Friday while seeking extension of his custody. The police have relied on his WhatsApp chats to make the claim.

Kundra was arrested on July 19 in a case pertaining to the alleged creation of pornographic films and for publishing them through a mobile-based application.

Meanwhile, the police also searched the Mumbai residence of Kundra’s wife — Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty — and recorded her statement in the case.

Milind Bharambe, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), confirmed the development to ET.

“While probing the case, we stumbled upon certain chats which revealed that Kundra was on the verge of inking a deal to sell already produced 119 adult films for $1.2 million. We need to investigate if the videos were already transferred to the buyer,” the police said in its remand copy, which ET has been able to access.

“Their auditor and IT developer told us that the monthly spending in the operation was 4,000 to 10,000,” the police said.
