Samantha Ruth Prabhu in big league! 'Yashoda' mints Rs 55 cr in pre-release business, her highest so far

Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s upcoming Telegu flick ‘Yashoda’ is a smash hit even before its release. The thriller has earned about Rs 55 crore as per trade reports. This makes ‘Yashoda's collections one of the highest pre-release businesses for a woman-centric movie. ‘Yashoda’ is also the Samantha solo movie with the highest pre-release collections.

Industry tracker Ramesh Bala took to Twitter to share the figures. As per his tweet, the digital rights of the film have been sold for Rs 24 crore. Satellite rights have been sold for Rs 13 crore, while Hindi dubbing rights and overseas distribution rights have been sold for Rs 3.5 crore and Rs 2.5 crore, respectively. He also added that the theatrical distribution rights of the film within India have been sold for Rs 12 crore.

The movie revolves around the sensitive subject of surrogate motherhood. Prabhu slips into the shoes of Yashoda, a surrogate mother who gets involved in a surrogacy racket inadvertently and later sets out to bring the perpetrators to justice. The ‘ Pushpa’ actress recently revealed to her fans about battling illness. She opened up about suffering from myositis, a rare autoimmune condition. However, the star refused to be bogged down by her illness and returned to promoting ‘Yashoda’ on the sets recently. She also clarified that although being diagnosed had shaken her up, it is not at a life-threatening stage. She also wished the media didn’t exaggerate the health conditions. “I want to clear up one thing. I saw a lot of articles describing my condition as life-threatening. The stage I’m in, it’s not life-threatening. At the moment, I’m not dead yet. I don’t think those headlines were very necessary,” she told a leading English daily.


The actress also opened up on how she coped with her illness. In a recent with India Today, Prabhu revealed her health condition fluctuated frequently and she has accepted it as the new normal. “ As I said in my post (Instagram), some days are good, and some are bad. Some days, I felt that even taking one more step would be difficult. But when I look back, I wonder if I’ve gone through so much and have come this far. I’m here to fight,” explains the ‘Kushi’ actress.
