Saira Banu admitted in ICU due to BP-related problems, may be discharged in 1-2 days

The news comes nearly two months after her actor-husband Dilip Kumar passed away.

Veteran actress Saira Banu has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai.

In a statement to ANI, a family friend said that Banu had been hospitalised three days ago after facing defficulty with blood pressure levels.

A hospital official told PTI that the actress has been "doing well" and is likely to be discharged in a day or two.


"She is admitted to the hospital due to low BP. She was brought to the hospital three days ago. She is fine and much better now. There's nothing to worry about," he said, adding that he had spoken to the actor on Tuesday.

Banu tested negative for Covid, but was kept in isolation according to the regulations in the pandemic. The hospital she has been admitted at isn't a Covid facility.

The news comes nearly two months after her actor-husband Dilip Kumar passed away on July 7, 2021.

The 77-year-old actress has been admitted to the same hospital where the Tragedy King breathed his last.

Saira Banu made her Bollywood debut in 1961 with the movie 'Junglee' opposite late actor Shammi Kapoor. She is celebrated for films like 'Padosan' (1968), 'Hera Pheri' (1976), 'Diwana' (1967) and 'Purab Aur Paschim' (1970).

India's screen icon the legendary Dilip Kumar passed away on Wednesday morning. The 98-year-old star, who had been unwell for sometime and undergoing treatment at Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital, was laid to rest with full state honours at the Juhu Qabarastan.

Born Yusuf Khan in Peshawar, Pakistan, and often known as the Nehruvian hero, Kumar was loved and respected across borders. The Padma Vibhushan awardee had also been feted with the Nishan-e-Imtiaz,Pakistan’s highest civilian award.


His demise saw Bollywood stars and politicians rush to his Pali Hill home to pay their final respects.

Kumar made his film debut with 'Jwar Bhata' in 1944, and appeared for a final time of the big screen in 'Qila' in 1998, 54 years later. His five-decade illustrious career included 'Mughal-e-Azam', 'Devdas', 'Naya Daur', 'Ram Aur Shyam', and 'Shakti' among several others.

Dilip Kumar was given a gun salute, following which the police band paid him a tribute at the Juhu Qabrastan in Santacruz Mumbai.

While not more than 25-30 people were allowed inside the Qabrastan, the venue was packed with media and fans of the late star. The crowd, of nearly 100 people, was being controlled by the police.

Veteran actor Dharmendra was among those who came to pay his last respects to the legend. The actor, who had worked with Dilip Kumar in the Bengali film 'Paari' and its Hindi remake 'Anokha Milan', was seen sitting by Saira Banu's side.

Earlier in the day, the 85-year-old had penned an emotional note for the star calling him his "most affectionate brother in the industry."

"Extremely sad to lose my most affectionate brother in the industry. Jannat naseeb ho, Hamare Dalip Sahab ko (May he rest in heaven)," the 'Sholay' actor wrote on Instagram.
