Sabyasachi Mukherjee says having a strong, individual voice is the only way to beat fashion fatigue & stay relevant

Over-exposure to trends and designs is a problem.

Speaking to a business magazine recently, the designer said the industry is already going through fashion fatigue.

Fashion fatigue, which afflicts the population after over- exposure to trends and designs, is among the most common problem zones a designer must avoid. And having spent two decades in the industry, Sabyasachi Mukherjee is well aware of this banana peel.

Speaking to a business magazine recently, the designer said the industry is already going through fashion fatigue. “Earlier there were just two or three names [in fashion]; but now fashion has become the next big business in education, just like hotel management. Everybody wants to open a fashion school, everybody wants to become a designer. There has been an infusion of great designers, but also an infusion of mediocrity. It’s going to be the survival of the fittest because the consumer is becoming more aware,” he said.

How to beat the fatigue and remain relevant then? The only way out is to have an individual voice, Mukherjee said. “Only those who will be able to have an important and strong voice will be able to traverse the next 20 years,” he explained.
