Navratri, the nine-day long festival, is devoted to the worship of the deity Durga. In Hindu mythology, it celebrates the victory of goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura.
The 9 different avatars of the goddess are worshipped during this period that celebrates the emergence of good over evil. Several communities fast during this time, and a variety of delectable dishes are prepared for the occasion.
So whether you're fasting this Navratri, or simply want to enjoy the delicious spread associated with the festival, these easy-to-make recipes will come in handy.
Ingredients Soaked sabudana: 175 gm Potatoes (boiled, peeled and mashed): 2 Peanuts (crushed and roasted): 100 gm Oil: 10 ml

Cumin seeds: 8 gm Green chilli paste: 5 gm Cilantro: 5 gm Rock (Sendha) salt: 4 gm
Method - Drain water from the sabudana. Knead it with potatoes, cumin seeds, green chilli paste, cilantro. - Add a pinch of sugar and salt to soften the dough - Spread a portion of dough on flat surface

- Grease it with oil on both sides - Flip and cook from both sides on a tawa

Method - Heat ghee in a pan, add waterchesnut flour. Cook on a slow flame for 4 minutes or till it turns light brown in colour, while stirring continuously - Add 2 cups of warm water, mix well and continue to cook on slow flame for another 4 minutes, or till the water has been absorbed. Stir continuously - Add sugar, and mix well. Cook on a slow flame for 4 more minutes - Turn off the flame, add cardamom powder and mix well - Garnish with almonds and pistachios

Ingredients Amaranth flour (rajgira aata): ¾ cup Potatoes: 100 gm Cumin powder: ½ tsp Green chilies (chopped): 2 Rock salt Ghee or oil
Method: - Boil potatoes, and mash them - Mix amaranth flour with salt, cumin powder, green chilies and mashed potatoes. Knead to a smooth dough - Form medium sized balls from the dough. Dust with amaranth flour - Use a rolling pin to make a medium sized circle - Cook it, using ghee or oil, on a hot tawa - Serve hot with curd

An adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Devdas’ follows the lives of Shah Rukh Khan (Devdas), Aishwarya Rai (Paro) and Madhuri Dixit (Chandramukhi) in the Calcutta of landlords and courtesans.
