A Tollywood actress and former Bigg Boss contestant, Ashu Reddy, has been booked for allegedly cheating a London-based software professional of Rs 9.35 crore under the pretext of marriage. According to TOI report, the Central Crime Station (CCS) police have registered a case against her and three of her family members under Section 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), officials said.

As per the complaint, the victim, a divorced NRI techie, met the actress in Hyderabad in 2018 through a common acquaintance while visiting his family. During their initial interactions, the woman reportedly told him she was pursuing higher education in the United States. Within a couple of months, their acquaintance grew into a close friendship, which later turned into a relationship.

Police officials said the actress allegedly assured the victim that his divorce would not be a concern and agreed to marry him. However, soon after accepting the proposal, she reportedly began seeking financial assistance, citing multiple personal and professional challenges.

A police officer, speaking about the case, said the accused claimed, "Once she accepted the proposal, she told the victim that there was some issue with her H-1B visa. She also told him about a pending education loan she had taken for her master's in the US. Claiming that her father had stopped supporting her financially and that she wanted to pursue a career in films, she sought monetary help from the victim."

Believing her and expecting marriage, the victim claims he provided significant financial support over time. According to the complaint, he spent money on various expenses, including helping her purchase a flat, gold, and even a car, apart from covering day-to-day costs.

However, the situation reportedly changed when the victim began pressing for marriage. Police said that each time the topic came up, the actress allegedly delayed the process with different excuses. The matter escalated in July 2020 when the victim insisted on arranging a formal meeting between both families. At that point, she is said to have refused the proposal.

Shocked by the turn of events, the complainant demanded that the money be returned. According to police, the actress then began avoiding him. Later, following intervention by a Tollywood character artist who acted as a mediator, the accused allegedly agreed to return Rs 70 lakh and issued post-dated cheques. However, officials said these cheques were never honoured.

The complaint further states that the victim continued to face emotional manipulation. In November 2020, members of the actress’s family reportedly contacted him, claiming she had fallen into depression after the breakup and urging him to reconcile. Trusting their claims, the victim agreed to revive the relationship and even met her father again in November 2023 to discuss marriage.

While the family initially appeared to agree, police said they backed out once again in July 2025. Since December 2025, there has reportedly been no communication from the accused.

The complainant later alleged that he discovered the actress was involved in another relationship and had conspired with her family to extract money from him over the years. Police officials have begun an investigation into the matter, examining financial transactions and communication records. Further action will be taken based on the findings, they added.
