RIL AGM 2021: Empathy, green legacy & neutral dress code was the theme

Reliance Industries Limited's 44th Annual General Meeting (post-IPO) was a family affair.
From remembering RIL founder Dhirubhai to placing faith in the next-gen leaders - Akash, Isha & Anant - the Ambanis struck an emotional chord with shareholders digitally.
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of RIL, began the second-ever virual AGM by paying his respects to his late father, with folded hands.

Mukesh & Nita's youngest son, Anant, who is next in line to get married to his rumoured-girlfriend Radhika Merchant, was absent. The AGM was also attended by Nita’s mother Purnima Dalal, and sister Mamta Dalal - both dressed in beige. Dhirubhai's dearest Isha said that her "grandfather always wanted to see a Reliance where each person did their best to help others. He would be proud," she shared.
Asia's richest man with a net worth of Rs 6,58,400 crore or $85.6 billion, according to the Hurun India Rich List, reminded the shareholders of Reliance's epic journey - from a small textile company with IPO less than 50 years ago to becoming one of the world's 50 most-valuable companies. He announced a Rs 75,000 crore investment in setting up four 'Giga' factories to make solar photovoltaic cells, green hydrogen, batteries and fuel cells over the next three years - determined to make Reliance a zero-carbon brand by 2035. The 64-year-old business tycoon said he wanted to transform the 'legacy business' into a carbon-neutral business as green businesses are the future. "Building a new ecosystem and decarbonising oil-to-chemicals operations will create unprecedented value for India and RIL. New energy and new material are not merely business. It is our mission to heal the environment. It is an expression of RIL's commitment that we care for our beautiful and bountiful planet. By implementing our green vision, RIL will help transition India and the world from an industrial civilisation to an ecological civilisation," he said.
The Ambanis want to leave behind a green legacy for the future generation. After taking the podium, new grandmother Nita Ambani - Director of RIL and founder of Reliance Foundation - shared she was thrilled to welcome her first grandchild - Prithvi Akash Ambani, Akash and daughter-in-law Shloka Mehta's first born - in December last year. Akash Ambani and Shloka MehtaDuring the one-hour-45-minute long AGM, the billionaire businessman said he was hopeful Reliance will become a "caring and empathetic corporate citizen" for the next generation of leaders - lead by Isha, Akash and Anant - further enriching this precious legacy.
In the last 15 minutes, Ambani paid a positive tribute to late father. He called positive mindset the most-useful resource that acts as a highly-effective medicine. "Despair weakens us. Determination strengthens us. Negativity numbs with pessimism and inactivity, but positivity provides us with hope and confidence," he stressed.

He concluded by quoting Dhirubhai's words - "Challenge negative forces with hope, self confidence and conviction, and ambition and initiative will always triumph".
