Ramayana box office collection day 1
As per the early estimates by Sacnilk.com, Ramayana Part 1 had a net collection of Rs 64.85 crore in India on the first day. The India gross collection for the film was Rs 77.50 crore across 25,200 shows. The Hindi version was by far the biggest contributor to the opening day numbers. It had grossed Rs 47.50 crore from 20,678 showings. The Kannada version had collected Rs 7.25 crore from 1,197 showings and the Telugu version had brought in Rs 6 crore from 1,776 showings.
The Tamil version has added Rs 2.60 cr from 992 shows, and the Malayalam version has brought in Rs 1.50 cr from 557 shows.
Despite not breaking the biggest opening day records, the film did better than the opening day collections of several other Bollywood blockbusters. It beat the opening day collections of SRK's Pathaan (Rs 57cr), Ranbir Kapoor's Animal (Rs 63cr) and Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 2 (Rs 62cr).
While the opening numbers are certainly impressive, Ramayana didn't make it into the list of the biggest Indian openers. Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar 2, which came out earlier this year, had a far bigger opening in India at Rs 102 crore.
Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan also remained ahead with its opening day collection at Rs 75 crore. Another film that Ramayana could not beat was Prabhas' Adipurush. The 2023 mythological was criticised for its dialogues, its visuals and the way the characters were portrayed, yet it still opened at Rs 86.75 crore in India.
SS Rajamouli reviews Ramayana
While the film received mixed reactions from viewers, its visual effects and large-scale presentation caught the attention of several filmmakers. Baahubali and RRR director SS Rajamouli also shared his thoughts on the film through a post on X.He wrote, "#Ramayana… the sheer scale of the film and the visuals on the big screen are spectacular to watch. Ranbir as Rama, especially from the Vanavasam onwards, is serene yet magnificent. Yash brings a menacing presence as Ravana, while Sai Pallavi is graceful as Sita. The pre-climax and climax… loved every bit of it. Congratulations @malhotra_namit , @niteshtiwari22 and the entire team on bringing such an ambitious vision so beautifully to the screen."
Backed by Prime Focus Studios, DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana is planned as a two-part cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic. While the first instalment has arrived in theatres, the second part is scheduled for a Diwali 2028 release. Stay tuned to see how the film will perform over Diwali weekend.
