History teacher Gowri Mirlay Achanta recalled how the OBA was launched because of the First World War. “The idea for an association was initiated in 1901, but soon, our boys were fighting World War I in foreign countries. They wrote letters to the Principal recounting experiences on the battlefield and wishing they could come back home to Bengaluru,” she said. “The War became a motivation for the students to come together. We observe the Old Boys’ Day on the first Sunday of September. We pay respects to the students we lost during both the World Wars and the Kargil.” Names of the martyrs have been carved below the statue of the patron saint, St. Joseph, on the school premises.

Rahul Tadimalla, partner at RSVP Capital Advisors, said that the OBA network is possibly as strong and diversified as the alumni association of Harvard University. “No matter which part of the world a Josephite finds himself in, he can reach out to a local OBA member for help, mentoring, job opportunities or referrals.”
Advocate Siddharth Raja, batch of 1990, said that the OBA is differentiated from other alumni associations because of its unhalted tradition of meeting once a year. “All of the school’s heritage is nostalgia. Right from the traditional hockey matches to the breakfast menu, everything followed by students across batches is a 100-year-old tradition. This ensures that the community remains strong.”
