Artist Radhika Seksaria’s upcoming exhibit Sukoon is inspired by the Sufi philosophy of experiencing love without any barriers.

Artist Radhika Seksaria’s paintings have always pulled at the hearts of art lovers, perhaps because of the calm and peace they emanate.

Her previous collections, titled Miraaya and Ruminations, were inspired by the love of Mirabai, and the poetry of Rumi, respectively. Both the collections are remembered for their spiritual exuberance, and Zen-like appeal.

Seksaria’s tryst with art started in a small city, Gorakhpur, where she spent her childhood. Later, she got married and moved to Mumbai. While she conducted her familial duties with élan, her passion for art continued.

Over the past 20 years, Seksaria has experimented with various mediums, and finally chosen acrylic on canvas. Her paintings have been exhibited across the world, in countries such as the United States, London, UAE, and India.

Her upcoming collection, aptly titled Sukoon, will once again find praise from those looking for a spiritual connection with art. The collection evokes the eternal search for peace in every soul.

Sukoon is inspired by the Sufi philosophy that our life purpose is to experience love without barriers — a love so intense, that there is no separation between the seeker and the Divine.

To experience this union, one must get immersed in complete devotion and surrender through practices like chanting and dancing…perhaps, the reason why whirling dervishes became an important icon of Sufism.

Sukoon is thus a tribute to all the Sufi qualities of love for self, nature, and the Divine. Each painting in the series depicts stillness and movement, whirling and union, steadiness and spiritual flight.

“With Sukoon, I hope to give a bit of peace and bliss to the viewer too. I hope the audience feels inspired to break boundaries — physical, emotional and intellectual — and surpass themselves in the search for truth and eternal love,” Radhika said. In a chaotic world, full of speed and activity, Seksaria’s collection encourages viewers to find stillness in movement, just like the whirling dervishes of Sufism, who find bliss and union within, as they devote every step of their dance to the Divine.

“Through my art, I would like to transport the viewer into a new reality, a world which is filled with beauty and bliss. Essentially, a world full of sukoon,” Seksaria said.

The Sukoon series will be displayed on March 14 and 15, 2019 at a luxury hotel in Mumbai.
