R Partibhan shares adorable unseen stills of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and 'Ponniyin Selvan' cast, wins Internet

Mani Ratnam’s period drama ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is all set to hit the theatres on September 30. Ahead of the release, director-actor Parthiban treated fans to some adorable BTS (behind-the-scenes) photos of the movie’s cast. These pictures feature Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and R Sarathkumar who play key roles in the movie. The ‘Bharathi Kannamma’ actor also praised Bachchan’s impeccable work ethic and dedication to her craft.

On Monday, Parthiban dropped a few beautiful pictures of the ‘PS:1’ cast. Bachchan looked ethereally beautiful and resplendent in a crimson saree and gold jewellery. Along with the pictures he also posted some poems, praising the actress for her dedication and zeal.

Directed by Mani Ratnam, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is an epic historical film based on the Tamil literary novel of the same name, written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. One of the most awaited films of the year, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ has an ensemble cast that boasts of some of the most illustrious names of Southern cinema. It features Chiyaa Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, R. Parthiban, Karthi and Jayam Ravi in lead roles. A.R Rahman composed the music for the movie.


In the movie, Bachchan plays the role of Nandini, a Pazvuhoor queen who is on a mission to avenge the loss of her lover.

This historical fantasy has been in the making for quite some time. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, director Mani Ratnam described how he had attempted to make the movie twice, once in 1994 and the second time in 2011. Both times the film could not be completed due to some unforeseen reasons.

However the ‘Roja’ director revealed he was glad his earlier attempts to make the film proved to be unfruitful as it would have been very difficult to adapt the huge book through a single movie. “ ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is divided into five volumes. It would be impossible to compress it into a single film. We might not have been able to do it justice back then. But today the audience are more open to watching a film in parts or series. I'm glad Ponniyin Selvan didn't happen all these years because this is the right time,” he was quoted as saying.
