Mani Ratnam, one of the greatest directors of Indian films, has released the trailer of his Ponniyin Selvan. On Tuesday, he and his team organized an audio event in Chennai where they launched the trailer of this period drama. Kamal Haasan voiced the trailer, which showed the Chola dynasty and other film characters.

The first scene of the trailer is a long shot showcasing the vast kingdom.





You can see Trisha, Vikram Karthi, Prakash Raj, Jayam Ravi, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The video displayed the beauty of the dynasty and also many fighting scenes. The ending scene of the trailer shows Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and a vacant throne. Vikram Karthi plays the role of Aditya Karikalan, and Aishwarya can be seen in a dual role.

Mani Ratnam has not only directed this period drama but has been a co-writer too. Other writers of this film are B. Jeyamohan and Elango Kumaravel. Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies are producing this film in collaboration. In 1955, Kalki Krishnamurthy wrote a novel called Ponniyin Selvan, on which Mani Ratnam's film is based upon.

Though Mani Ratnam initially decided to make it a stand-alone film, he later divided it into two parts.
