Ronil Patel, a young chef from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, has an inspiring journey of following his passion despite the odds. Initially, he set out to fulfil his parents' dream of becoming a software engineer, which led him to move to Canada at the age of 17. However, within just two months, Ronil realized that the field wasn't for him. Eager to find a path that resonated with his interests, he explored various courses until he discovered culinary arts—an instant connection that would change his life.

Despite facing resistance from his parents, who were sceptical about his choice to become a chef, Ronil stood firm. Determined to carve his own path, he enrolled in culinary school. Before classes even began, he took on jobs as a dishwasher and delivery partner to support himself. He endured long hours, from washing utensils to cleaning gutters, and even sleeping in his car. Yet, the anticipation of starting culinary school made every struggle worthwhile.

Ronil’s journey through the culinary world was marked by relentless hard work. His days often stretched from early mornings to late nights. He gradually advanced from being a dishwasher to a line chef, and eventually, a sous chef. After six years in the industry, feeling stuck in routine, he decided it was time to pursue something of his own.



In 2022, Ronil faced a life-altering incident when a conflict with his sous chef escalated dangerously. After Ronil dismissed the sous chef for aggressive behaviour towards a server, the situation turned violent, with the sous chef chasing him with a sharp knife. Ronil managed to escape unharmed, but the traumatic event prompted him to take a break and reassess his life.

By 2023, having saved some money, Ronil returned to Ahmedabad with a modest sum of Rs 5 lakh. With no concrete plan but a strong determination, he sought help from relatives, secured a rental space, and took out a loan. His hard work culminated in the opening of his restaurant, Toroni, in 2024. The launch was an emotional milestone for Ronil, as the restaurant received overwhelming support from the community. Encouraged by positive feedback, he is now considering expanding Toroni into a franchise.

Ronil's story is a testament to resilience and the power of following one's passion. For him, cooking is not just a profession; it nourishes both the body and the soul. As he looks to the future, Ronil remains committed to growing his culinary journey and creating meaningful experiences through his food.
