Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann ties the knot with Dr Gurpreet Kaur in Chandigarh

All eyes were on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday as he tied the knot with Mohali-based Dr Gurpreet Kaur in Chandigarh. Although a private affair, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal also attended the ceremony along with his family members.


On Thursday morning, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha Mann posted a picture with Mann who looked wedding-ready, in his saffron kurta-pyjama paired with a beige Nehru jacket and a yellow turban. Chadha himself was dressed in a white kurta-pyjama with a grey jacket.
Meanwhile, in the run-up to the wedding, the bride posted a picture of herself. Decked in an indigo suit, paired with gold jewellery, she wrote, "Din Shagna Da Chadya ..." (the auspicious day has come). She also thanked AAP leaders for their congratulatory messages.


Gurpreet Kaur did her MBBS from the Maharishi Markandeshwar University in Mullana in Haryana in 2018. Her Twitter bio describes her as a "Daughter of Soil." Her profile picture is of the 80-year-old Jangir Kaur, who turned into a poster woman of the farmers' agitation against the three Central farm laws and had received lots of praise on social media.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up at the CM's Chandigarh residence where the wedding was solemnised according to Sikh rituals in the presence of Mann's mother and sister, and a few other guests.

And, while the wedding was a small affair, the spread certainly seems to be a big one! News agency ANI reported that the menu is a mix of Indian and Italian fare - including kadai paneer, tandoori kulche, dal makhani, navratan biryani, mausami subzian, apricot-stuffed kofta, lasagna Siciliano and burrani Raita. The dessert line-up looks promising with fresh fruit truffle, moong dal halwa, shahi tukda, angoori rasmalai and dry fruit rabari.

The 48-year-old comedian-turned-politician, who became the CM after the AAP stormed to power in February earlier this year - will be marrying for the second time. He separated from his first wife in 2015 and has two children -- daughter Seerat Kaur (21) and son Dilshan (17) -- from his ex-wife Inderpreet Kaur.
