Posh and Becks like it spicy
Chef Justin Paul at the Venetian Macao dishes on the palate of his star guests

The British love for curry is well known. Now we hear, the Beckhams have taken to North Indian khana. The glamorous couple recently relished the North Indian thali at the Indian restaurant Golden Peacock at the Venetian Macao, Macau.
The restaurant, which won a one-star rating in the prestigious Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau 2014, presents desi food in a sophisticated western style which seemed to appeal to David and Victoria.
“They tried the non-vegetarian thali and both of them liked it very much. We try to not make everything as spicy as authentic Indian fare, so it was just right for them,” says Chef Justin Paul from the restaurant.
The Venetian Macao has been a destination for luxury and glamour for Indians. And their convention centers are sought after by the country’s corporate houses. Chef Alen Chow, Executive Chef – Convention Catering, Venetian Macau Limited, says the quality of ingredients and cooking styles they use do the trick for them.
Among the Indian celebs, they have prepared meals for Bollywood’s first family, the Bachchans. “They don’t enjoy seafood, so we made bhindi bhujia, yellow dal and chicken tikka for some of their friends.
Amitabhiji loves palak paneer too.” Having been the venue for several Indian awards ceremonies, they say, their Dal Sona Mor, after which the Golden Peacock restaurant has been named, and Kashmiri Rogan Josh are popular with the celebs.
“The actors stay at the hotel for three or four days and enjoy our dishes. Nana Patekar even joined me in the kitchen to experiment,” says Chef Paul.
