‘A symbol of a selfless Karmayogi.’ PM Modi pens emotional tribute to late mother Hiraben; Kangana Ranaut, Akshay Kumar offer condolences

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraben died on December 29 (Thursday). She was 100.

Modi took to Twitter, to pay an emotional tribute to his late mother. “A glorious century rests at the feet of God... In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values.” In another tweet, he recalled an invaluable life lesson his mother taught him on her 100th birthday, “work with wisdom and live with purity".

Many A-lister celebrities from tinsel town took to social media to offer condolences to the Prime Minister. Kangana Ranaut posted an adorable picture of Heeraben feeding Modi on her Instagram Stories and wrote in Hindi, “May God give Narendra Modi ji patience and peace in this tough time. Om Shanti.”

Akshay Kumar tweeted, “There is no greater sorrow than losing a mother. May god give you the strength to bear this sorrow @narendramodi ji. Om Shanti.”
Ajay Devgn took to Twitter to offer words of comfort. “My heartfelt condolences on the passing of Smt. Heeraben Modi. A simple, principled lady, she raised a fine son in our PM Shri Narendra Modiji. Om Shanti. My personal condolences to our PM and his family.”
Anupam Kher lauded the PM as “the son of Mother India” and said that although no one will be able to take the place of a mother, the PM has the blessings of every mother who lives in the country, including his own.
Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri wrote that the “karmayogi” (ascetic) life of the mother of the son of Mother India” will leave its legacy.
Members of the political fraternity took to social media to offer words of comfort to the PM. Yogi Adityanath, the PM of UP wrote, “ "For a son, a mother is the entire world. The death of a mother is an unbearable and irreparable loss for a son. The demise of the mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is extremely sad. May Lord Shri Ram give the departed pious soul a place at his holy feet. Om Shanti!"

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi wrote, “Received the sad news of the passing away of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother. May God give place to the departed pious soul at his feet and give courage to Shri @narendramodi ji and all his family members in these moments of pain. Om Shanti!"

Modi performed the last rites of his mother at the Gandhinagar crematorium. He was also seen carrying the mortal remains of his mother to the burning ghat.

An (Extra) Ordinary Woman

In June this year, Modi penned a heartfelt tribute to his mother on her 100th birthday on his blog. He wrote the early struggles his mother faced, and how she coasted through the vicissitudes of life without ever compromising her principles of humility and self-respect. He described his mother as a “simple and extraordinary” who never gave in to the lure of materialism. He also revealed that his mother had no assets to her name and he had never seen her wear any gold ornaments.
