The PM took to social media to wish happy birthday to Big B.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted megastar Amitabh Bachchan on his 80th birthday. "He is one of India's most remarkable film personalities who has enthralled and entertained audiences across generations. May he lead a long and healthy life," Modi said, wishing him a very happy birthday.

Even at 80, Bachchan is one of the busiest actors as he remains in demand in the Hindi film industry while continuing to spearhead the highly successful TV series 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' year after year.

The superstar who is also fondly known by several nicknames like 'BIG B', 'Shahenshah' and 'living legend' turned 80 on October 11. Legions of fans took to social media to celebrate the star's birthday.

With a career spanning over six decades, Bachchan is known for dabbling in a large variety of roles and reinventing himself as an actor frequently. Although he gained fame as a brooding action star fighting against institutionalized injustice, in the 1970s, the 'Zanjeer' star had always tried to branch out to various roles which showcased his versatility as an actor. From the husband struggling with ego problems and crippling sense of insufficiency at his wife overshadowing him professionally in 'Abhimaan' (1973) to the heartbroken poet of 'Kabhie Kabhie' (1976) who wallows in self pity and alcohol, Bachchan had never shied from breaking away from a specific mould.

He debuted as a voice narrator in Mrinal Sen's National Award winning film, ' Bhuvan Shome'. His first project as an actor was 'Saat Hindustani' (1969) directed by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas, where he played one of the seven protagonists. The film also featured Utpal Dutt, Anwar Ali ( brother of comedian Mehmood), Madhu and Jalal Agha.

Aside from acting, Bachchan had also dabbled in politics and entrepreneurship. However both these experiments were unsuccessful.

After several attempts to comeback as a mainstream hero in the late 90s' the superstar reinvented himself as a character actor and TV show host in the 2000s. This move gave his career a new lease of life. From 'Mohabbatein' to 'Black' his roles received critical appreciation and were lauded by the audience as well.
