Every festive season, Sunil Kanti Roy, MD of the 81-year-old Peerless Group, comes up with unusual and culturally-driven events that make a great impact. He was behind the acclaimed corporate film on Peerless, directed by National Award-winning film maker Meghna Gulzar two years ago.

Then there was Lord Meghnad Desai, who was invited to deliver the BK Roy Memorial Lecture in Kolkata. He enraptured the crowd with his idea of how politics and films in India are a mirror image of each other. And, as he spoke, artist Sanjay Bhattacharya drew a portrait of him.

This year, Roy has a new idea up his sleeve — a collector’s edition book, which will be published by Harper Collins. The book, Peerless Minds, edited by Pritish Nandy and Tapan Chaki, features interviews with legends from India. Only 800 copies will be printed for free private distribution.

Peerless Minds

From economist Amartya Sen, author VS Naipaul, philanthropist Azim Premji, mathematician Manjul Bhargava, businessman Ratan Tata, sculptor Anish Kapoor, physician-author Siddharth Mukherjee, legal luminary Fali Nariman, Pritzker Prize-winning architect Balkrishna Doshi, historian Irfan Habib, author Salman Rushdie to classical conductor Zubin Mehta — the book features a galaxy of India’s finest interviewed by equally famous writers.

The Harper Collins edition of the book will be available for sale and the royalty will go to Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Sister Nivedita Girls’ School.
