A notice issued on November 6 by the District Child Protection Officer under the Women and Child Development Department named four songs that should not be included in the concert setlist, as reported by NDTV. These are Patiala Peg, 5 Taara, Jeeb Vicho Afeem (also known as Case) and Jatt Uthe Fire Karda.According to the authorities, it will be "a wrong influence on young children". The mall management has been asked to make sure that the songs are not played during the November 15 event.
The notice also refers to a July 2019 order by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The order had raised concerns that, "These songs affect the children of impressionable age. It had directed police chiefs to ensure that no songs are played glorifying the liquor, wine, drugs and violence in any song even in live shows."
Why did authorities raise concerns about the songs?
The latest directive followed a complaint filed on November 1 by Chandigarh-based professor Panditrao Dharenavar. He was also a petitioner in the 2019 case concerning the portrayal of alcohol and violence in songs.Panditrao reportedly requested that Diljit not perform the four tracks, even if their lyrics were modified. His complaint also raised concerns about the safety of children attending the concert.
These included exposure to loud music and flashing lights, as well as the possibility of children being invited on stage. He also reportedly objected to the singer wearing "two crisscrossed silver bullet belts (also known as bandoliers) or dummy metallic silver cartridges over his chest," during the performance.
The authorities' notice, however, specifically names the four songs and asks the organisers to keep them out of the setlist.
Despite the controversy, Diljit has maintained that his Indore concert will go ahead as planned. Reacting to reports about possible trouble, the singer said he would visit the city on November 15, enjoy its famous poha and meet his fans.
Meanwhile, the event has also drawn attention after three private schools in Indore reportedly received bomb-threat emails linked to the concert. Security teams searched the premises, but no explosives were found.
This is not the first time the singer's concert plans have faced security-related concerns. His Delhi show initially ran into permission issues on October 21 following security concerns and specific threat inputs. However, Diljit eventually performed at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 30. Stay tuned!
