Achievers from different professions remember their favourite road trips.

Gaurav Mehta, Founder, Jaipur Watch Company

"In 2005, I took a night trip from Nottingham to Bournemouth with three friends. I decided that we rent a car, using my casino wins of a previous night as a treat to my buddies. I informed my friends that we were going ti Blackpool and they could sleep while I drive. When they woke up at 4am, they realised we were in Bournemouth instead of Blackpool, which was my plan all along.

Farrokh Khambata, Restaurateur

“I remember two trips — one in which I drove around the Philippines for three weeks, and another in South Africa [18 days]. The Philippines is a place of natural beauty. The highlight for me was wreck diving. There were about 20 wrecks in one area, caused during World War 2. My trip to South Africa combined my passions – food, wine and adventure sports. In Gansbaai, I went shark cage diving. It was a different ballgame, getting close to great white sharks.”

Jitendra Gupta, Managing Director, PayU India

“I bought a car in 2011 and decided to go on a road trip with my wife and two friends. It was meant to be a day trip to Igatpuri on a rainy day. But when we reached there, we realised the car was out of fuel. I ended up filling adulterated petrol in a new car. Then a friend suggested we head out to Shirdi. On the way back, we took a diversion to a vineyard in Nashik and spent the night at a resort. A day trip turned into a three-day one.”

Nitish Mittersain, Founder, Nazara Games

My favourite road trip was a three-week trip to New Zealand with my wife Shivani in 2010. We were celebrating our third wedding anniversary. We drove around 1,100 km from Auckland in the northern islands all the way down to Christchurch in the southern island. We saw the famous New Zealand sheep on the farms and then lost our way to discover a water inlet, which had hundreds of baby seals learning how to swim before they headed out to the sea. We learnt that sometimes, losing your way may lead to discoveries.”

Bojan Jankulovski, Head, Maserati India

"A friend's wedding in Trento, Italy. Gave me a reason to go on a long road trip a few years ago. My friends and I started from Rome and took our first detour to Siena, Surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. It is one of the most beautiful cities in Tuscany. We spent the morning on the top of Torre del Mangla...The last lap of our journey was from Venice to Trento. The roads are winding and narrow and offer stunning views."
