Irrfan Khan would have turned 54 today. The ‘Life of Pi’ actor, who passed away in Mumbai last year following a two-year-long hard battle with neuroendocrine cancer, left moviegoers and his fans across the world devastated. On the actor's birth anniversary, his son Babil took to social media to mourn Khan with an emotional post.
Babil, who had conducted the last rites of his father after his death, on Thursday shared an unseen video clip on Instagram. In the undated clip, the ‘Maqbool’ actor can be seen beaming brightly while recording a video message for Babil. He is joined by his wife Sutapa who is caught unaware, thinking it's a video call. The short video captures Khan's struggle to adjust the camera and record a message for Babil even as his younger son Ayaan shies away and laughs in the background.
"It’s your birthday Baba. Shoutout to all the technologically inept parents, notice that they did not finish saying that they miss me," Babil captioned the video on Instagram.
Remembering his father, Babil revealed how the late actor never believed in the concept of celebrating birthdays, and there was no pressure in the family to remember such dates. However, this time it seems different, as Babil pointed out, in his father’s absence. “On the occasion, Mamma would have to remind us both; but this time I could not forget yours if I tried," he wrote.
Since Khan's death, the 23-year-old has been reminiscing about the father-son moments and has often shared them on social media. A few days ago, he posted a few candid pictures of him alongside Irrfan Khan as he wished everyone on New Year's eve. "On to the next one without you, still with your compassion. Public ko Happy new year!" the post read.
Till his death, Khan remained one of the most celebrated actors who could straddle commercial and arthouse cinema with the same charm and elan.
